May. 26th, 2007 10:00 pmOne thing I don't understand about Berlin, and namely West Berlin. There's so much made of The Wall in the center of the city, and how the Spree was barricaded, and U-Bahn split into 2 parts and so on. But presumably the wall needed to encircle the western part completely - otherwise what would be the point, if an easterner could just go around and sneak in from the west? So far I haven't found any mention of this.
(Upd.: Yes it did)
But I'm sure that the place I am at now (Charlottenburg) had been West Berlin. It is terrifyingly livable.
There's also the added attraction of being able to walk (shouldn't be more than half an hour, 40 minutes tops) from here to the airport. We'll see.
