Jun. 9th, 2006 09:54 pmI am very much concerned about continuing, verging on permanent, lack of run support for Wakefield - I believe the difference between games he starts and the rest has long ago passed a whole run per game and is climbing. He should have gotten the win today, as should anyone delivering 2R on 4H over 7 IP, and that's against a division leader - actually, I'd be surprised if all but a couple of his games this year weren't QS (yes, I know it's a made-up stat, but still). With a certifiable basket case in Clement (the guy is afraid of the ball; I'd be too in his place, I feel for him and stuff, but this is business, so trade his butt right now for a couple of high schoolers, cut him if no one wants him, just make him gone, and send The Ol' Cornrows in Cincy a limo full of cash while you're at it, to bring him back) and a hole in the rotation where Fat Man is supposed to be, the Sox simply cannot afford this crap. Yes, Nixon went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, but he doesn't do this consistently. And Papelbon is mortal, alas; the first BS of the season on the inherited runner (though you definitely don't want him pissed, 3 outs on swinging third strikes in the 9th).
Good thing Johnson got busy self-destructing again in the Bronx.
